Hedges v. Hessing — September 2007 Jury Trial

In September 2007, I tried Hedges v. Hessing, in Ada County District Court in Boise, Idaho.  Hedges was a contentious civil case involving many claims and counterclaims involved with the construction of a residential home in Boise, Idaho.

I was relatively early in my trial career and tried the case against a lawyer with decades more experience. The defendant was a difficult and slippery witness, making credibility an important part of the trial.

The jury returned a mixed verdict, essentially splitting the result between the competing claims.

There is one other reason I remember the case so clearly. While the Hedges jury was deliberating and ultimately returning its verdict, I was already selecting the jury for my next trial, Pfeifer v. Covino.  We had to take a break in Pfeifer to listen to the jury's verdict in Hedges.
